Bake Me a Cake

Has anyone else ever had to bake their own birthday cake? I just think there is something wrong with Mom having to bake her own birthday cake. I think it stems from my 20th birthday meltdown. It was my first birthday after Rocky and I were married. We lived in Aggie Village at Utah State. I went to school that morning. Rocky was home from work because of the weather. Well, I came home from school expecting birthday surprises. What? My mom always had birthday surprises when I got home from school. The house would be decorated, there would be some presents, and of course a birthday cake. Well, I walked into an empty apartment with a big mess in the kitchen. Rocky had started making me a cake when work called and asked him to come in. So he took the half made cake and dumped everything into the sink. So there were no presents, no decorations, no husband, and a big mess. I had myself a little pity party. It was a very sad birthday. I missed having my mom make a big deal out of my birthday. And I didn't like being a grown-up. Well I have grown up a lot since then. And Rocky has gotten better about the little things. But this year when he called and said he was going to be home from work a bit late. And, could I make my own cake? I flashed back to my 20th birthday meltdown. And I decided I didn't have to make my own cake, because now I have kids. So, I told them they could make my cake by themselves this year. They were pretty excited. They worked together and made me a pretty good cake. Now days my birthday is made special by seeing my kids get so excited over it. I love the little homemade cards and the nice deeds. And I look forward to more birthday cakes made with lots of love from their little hands.

I am totally with you on the making my own birthday cake, I have had to make my own cake, and then everyone comes over at night to eat cake and have a party, which is great but then I have to spend the whole day baking cake and cleaning my house so everyone can come over, not my idea of a good birthday, luckily my bday is in the summer so when the party is planned for my house I ask if we can have it at the park instead, its nice of my hubby to plan something for me, but sometimes guys just miss the little details.

Your kiddos look like they had so much fun baking! I also know what you mean by having to make your own cake. I think I finally guilted (is that a word) my mom in past years about my cake that she had me one made this past year! That's what we get for getting older! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
