Sneaky Leprechauns

Jacob and Colton have been making a leprechaun trap each St. Patrick's Day for the past three years. Each year its the same basic design with improvements depending on how the leprechaun got out the previous year. It consists of of box with a rainbow and gold for a lure. There is a trap door just below the rainbow covered with grass. The first year the trap door was too small and the Leprechaun just knelled down and picked the gold off. We knew this because there was little green foot and hand prints. He left a note tied with dental floss and some suckers. It was then we learned his name was Darby. The next year Jacob decided the trap door needed to go all the way across the box so that he couldn't go around. He also added duct tape to the inside so he would get stuck and not be able to get out. Well, he did fall in and get stuck but he took his boots off to get unstuck and hopped out. He left behind his little boots and some chocolate gold along with another little note tied with dental floss signed Darby. So this year Jacob and Colton decided they needed some way to keep him from getting out. So they tied a string to the trap door that pulled the rainbow over to cover the trap door. They set the trap up on the living room floor last night. When they woke up this morning they discovered their trap worked just like they had planned. The gold was gone and the rainbow had fallen and covered the trap door just as planned. But that sneaky little leprechaun escaped. He left behind taffy and a little note tied with dental floss and signed Darby. Jacob decided leprechauns must have time machines. It is so fun to listen to their little ideas about how he escaped. This has become a fun little tradition at our home. Hope you all have a little luck o' the Irish. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This is so funny! I have never heard of a leprechaun trap. What smart kids! I will have to do that with my kids next year. Thanks for the idea.
